ABOUT THE AUTHORS |
My Purpose Driven Life Well, i want to begin by saying Thank You to Rick Warren for making this book so simple to understand. I am a single mother of two and just when my life was falling down on top of me and things could not get worse, I picked up this book. I went to church as a kid, however had mixed feelings about religion and the fact that "there is someone up there with higher power" once i got older. It hit me once when my son at 14 months was sick. I was told to pray for him, however all i could say is "why, He does not listen to me". WOW what a horrible way to think. So i decided to make a change. It was not only for me but for my young children. They need the direction as well. I had this book for about a year and a half (my brother got it for me) and i just stored it away in the cabinet. What a mistake that was. If only I had read this book sooner maybe I would not be where I am today. However, I picked up this book, started reading it and started attending a local church. After being such a non-believer for so long, I now cannot understand or even fathom how much this book and having Jesus as a part of your life really does make you feel whole. If I could have any impact on the lives of others and their beliefs, it would be a pleasure to do so. Reading this is the best thing I have ever done for myself. Thank YOU Rick for this WONDERFUL NEW BEGINNING!! By Tasha. |
The book is intended to be read as a daily inspiration, with each of the forty short
chapters read on consecutive days. Each chapter contains a personal application
section at the end with a "point to ponder," a verse to remember, and a question
to consider over the course of that day. Rick Warren described his book
as an "anti-self-help book." The first sentence of the book reads, "It's not about
you,"[5] and the remainder of the chapter goes on to explain how the quest
for personal fulfillment, satisfaction, and meaning can only be found in understanding
and doing what God placed you on Earth to do.[6] The book's 40 chapters
are divided into six major sections, with the following titles:[7] What on Earth Am I Here For? Purpose #1: You Were Planned for God's Pleasure (Worship) Purpose #2: You Were Formed for God's Family (Fellowship) Purpose #3: You Were Created to Become Like Christ (Discipleship) Purpose #4: You Were Shaped for Serving God (Ministry) Purpose #5: You Were Made for a Mission (Mission) Each of these is meant to build on the previous - that is, Warren wants the reader to see that each purpose is sequential and foundational for the next step. |
